# How to annotate your screen in Webex on a Mac

Source: https://useoverlaid.app/guides/annotate-webex-mac

> Webex has an Annotate button in the Controls panel while you share. It gives you a pen, shapes, text and a pointer that shows your name. For zoom, spotlight and fading ink on top of any app, add a screen annotation app like Overlaid.

Webex's annotation works on whatever is visible on your screen, and only presenters can draw unless they allow others.

It's solid for meetings that stay inside Webex. It stops at Webex's edge.

## Webex's Annotate toolbar (Included)

A toolbar at the top of the meeting with a pen, pointer, lines, shapes, text, colors and an eraser.

1. Start sharing your screen.
2. In the Controls panel on the right, click Annotate.
3. Pick a tool, press the left mouse button and drag.
4. To keep annotations on a document, use Save, which saves a PDF.

Good:
- Participants can be allowed to annotate
- Annotations on shared documents can be saved as PDF
- The pointer shows your name

Limits:
- Unsaved annotations are lost when the meeting ends
- Only works inside Webex

## Overlaid ($11.99 once, 7-day free trial)

Draws on your screen in any meeting app, with zoom, spotlight and fading ink.

1. Share your entire screen in Webex.
2. Press ⌃⌥D to draw, and set ink to fade.
3. Use the halo or spotlight to guide people along as you move.

Good:
- The same tool in Webex, Zoom, Teams and Meet
- Zoom and keystrokes Webex doesn't have
- Nothing to turn on inside the meeting app

Limits:
- Only you can draw
- Marks aren't saved

## Tips

- **Let others draw only when you need to.** Webex lets you allow annotation per person from the Annotate toggle or by right-clicking a name.
- **Save before you leave.** Webex says unsaved annotations are lost when the meeting ends, so save a document's markup first.
- **Share the screen for outside drawing.** A separate app only reaches viewers on a whole-screen share.
