# How to draw on your screen in a Discord screen share on a Mac

Discord shares a screen, a window or an app. It doesn't, as far as we can tell, include anything to point or draw with.

That makes a separate drawing layer more useful here than on tools that already have one.

## Discord's screen share (Free)

Share your entire screen, one window or one app. Discord needs macOS Screen Recording permission first.

1. Join a voice channel and click the screen share button.
2. Choose an entire screen, a window or an app, then Go Live.
3. If the share is black, allow Discord under System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and restart it.

Good:
- Free and quick to start
- Sharing one window keeps other apps private

Limits:
- No drawing or pointer tools that we could find

## Tips

- **Full screen share for drawings.** Overlays only reach viewers when you share the entire screen, not a window.
- **Use Blur & Hide for private tabs.** Cover a DM or an email address on screen before you go live.
- **Allow Screen Recording once.** If Discord shows black, grant its permission and relaunch it.
