// OVERLAID FOR STREAMERS

Chat asked which line. Show them.

Live coding and software streams move fast and chat is always a few seconds behind. Circle it, show the shortcut, and give your cursor a trail that survives stream compression.

// SOUND FAMILIAR?

THINGS YOU'LL STOP SAYING.

  • “chat: WHICH LINE”

  • “chat: what did you press”

  • “chat: can't see your mouse at all”

// HOW IT PLAYS OUT

THREE MOMENTS WHERE IT PAYS OFF.

01SCENARIO

Keystrokes for chat

Chat will always ask what you pressed. Put the answer on screen before they do. Combos show up as keycaps, positioned wherever your layout has room.

HOW

  1. ⌃⌥KToggle keystrokes on stream.
  2. Drag the overlay clear of your webcam and chat in Settings.

02SCENARIO

A cursor chat can follow

Stream compression eats a thin macOS arrow for breakfast. A trail or halo gives your pointer enough weight to survive the trip to your viewers.

HOW

  1. ⌃⌥CCycle to Trailing cursor or Highlight cursor.
  2. Pick a colour that stands out against your editor theme.

03SCENARIO

Quick marks that don't pile up

A two-hour stream is a lot of circles. Fading ink clears each one by itself, so your screen doesn't turn into a mess halfway through.

HOW

  1. Set Fade to 2s.
  2. ECircle, point, keep coding.

Overlaid draws on your screen, not inside an app, so anything you can see, you can draw on.

ONE THING TO KNOW

Share your entire screen, not a single window.

Your drawings live in their own transparent layer on top of everything. A single-window share only sends that one window, so viewers won't see your marks. Share the whole screen and they will.

// FAQ

QUESTIONS WE GET.

Yes, with a Display Capture source. Window Capture only grabs one app's window, so the overlay on top of it won't be in the stream.

The keystroke overlay never shows secure input like password fields. It also defaults to combos only, so ordinary typing isn't shown either.

No plugin needed. Every Overlaid action is a plain keyboard shortcut, so you can bind any of them to a Stream Deck key with its built-in hotkey action.
